6.5/10
Lacks cohesion, plagued with flow/pacing problems, a confusing script, useless plot twists/buildups, and TONS of sub-par rehashes of things done before. So much was going on but nothing actually happened, and I couldn’t sit back and just enjoy a brainless spectacle because the convoluted story and lengthy run time demanded brainwork, which in turn makes suspending disbelief a real fucking problem.
Thanks to the shitty writing, Cumberbatch’s character lacked the depth he was sweating buckets to portray. Urban got the short end of the script stick with stilted, awkwardly-timed lines. Others may disagree but I still think Quinto’s the best thing in these two installments, and I’m not even his fan.
Not recommended, unless you’re a ST enthusiast looking forward to the absurd amounts of fanservice/winks/nods this movie tirelessly offers.
